1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000BooksLogoMed“Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to at home during early childhood.”*

Why

Developing literacy skills begin begins at birth and continues through the toddler and pre-school years.  The best way to ensure a child had the skills necessary to learn to read is having someone read aloud to them.

The brain develops more rapidly during the first three years of a child’s life than at any other time during their lives.  Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed.  20160323154409685

Most important, sharing books with children promotes a life-long love of books and reading.

How

We at the library invite you to participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program through the library.  When you register at the library, you’ll receive a 1,000 books log sheet, bookmark, and instruction sheet.

Keep track of the books you read with your child and come back for a prize after every 100 you finish with him or her.  At 1,000 books, your child will receive a 1,000 Books T-Shirt!
