While often thought of as a place for residents, businesses can find a lot to do at the library.
The library’s community room is open to anyone for use free of charge, including businesses (provided that no costs are charged for admittance). Selling items in the room will also require that you pay the City of West Branch’s public property vendor fees. It is available on a first-come-first-served basis and arrangements can be made to be used outside of normal library operating hours.
Past room uses include, but aren’t limited to:
- The library can offer a convenient midway point to meet a client. The community room offers a quiet, private location to discuss your business interests.
- Working at home? The library, and community room specifically, offers a place to get some work done out of the home or office.
- Hosting a training session. The rooms contains tables, chairs, whiteboard, and projection system (please let the library staff know that this will be needed). It also contains a small sink and counter area with a small refrigerator to store perishables for longer sessions.
For further details, visit the Community Room page to check availability, view rules and regulations, and request a time slot.
Wi-Fi and Internet Access
To run a business, you need internet access. Like the community room above, the library has all the internet you need. If yours is out, you want to get some work done outside of the home, or are travelling, the library has a free wireless connection open for you to use. The connection for you is a 10mbps download speed, allowing you a quick connection to whatever resources you need.
For details on the library’s wireless internet including policies and directions, please visit the wi-fi page.
Printing, Copying, and Faxing
With any business, it’s likely that you may have to copy, print, or fax documents. The library offers all of these services at only the cost to maintain the services so you don’t have to worry about making your printer print, replacing toner, or paper jams.
Copying and Printing cost only 10 cents per page black and white and 50 cents per page color. Faxing costs a bit more at $1 for the first page and 50 cents each additional page.
Business Planning Resources
Being a small business owner can be difficult. To help you along, the library provides access to the Small Business Reference Center, an online repository of business assistance. Inside are things such as how to create your own startup, how to write a business plan, and how to forecast your cash flow. As you grow, it provides access to how to hire employees, how to market your business, and how business taxes work among many other topics.
If you’re curious, pleas feel free to check it out – the resource center is free to all WBPL users. To access it, go to search.ebscohost.com and login with the username westbranchpl and the password library. The Small Business Resource Center is one of several online resources and can then be found midway down the page.
