The West Branch Public Library is looking for someone to host our storytimes, after school activities, teen advisory group, adult programs, and more!

The ideal candidate will have a passion for lifelong learning and community enrichment.  This person will engage with all ages in a variety of settings both within the library building and at various outreach and offsite locations.

West Branch, Iowa, is the home of Iowa’s only president, Herbert Hoover.  The West Branch Public Library is walking distance from our lively, historic downtown and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and National Historic Site. You’ll join a team of 2 full-time librarians who are committed to creating and implementing meaningful programming and building a collection that is relevant to the needs of our community, as well as other partners in the city, school, and community. West Branch boasts a great small town atmosphere and is also in easy proximity to the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids areas for those who don’t want to leave city amenities behind.

Job Summary:

Plan and implement Library programs for children, teens,  families, and adults of all ages. Work on the customer service desk to check materials in and out and answer patron questions. Fill in and assist with other library duties as time permits.

Work Schedule:

Part-time, up to 30 hours per week. Some evenings and occasional weekend hours.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Plan and implement programming for children, teens, and families such as storytimes and after-school activities.
  • Assist with programming for adults in line with community needs and strategic plan goals, including educational events, author visits, crafts, and movies. 
  • Plan and implement a Summer Library Program for all age groups, with the assistance of other library staff.
  • Assist with circulation, reference, interlibrary loan, outreach services and volunteer coordination as needed.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma required, some college training is desired.  Experience in library work is desired but not required.  Customer service experience and experience working with children is greatly desired.

Pay Range:

$15-20 per hour depending on experience and education.
