In addition to our whole host of services for adults, the library has many services that are of special interest to seniors in our community!
Large print books, audiobooks, and more
We have a special collection of large type books for people with vision needs. Is there a book you’d like to read but we don’t have it in our large print collection? Just ask! We can usually borrow a large print book from a larger library, or order a copy so other people in West Branch can read it too.
Prefer to listen to books? We still have a collection of audiobooks on CD, and residents of West Branch and rural Cedar County are eligible for free downloadable ebooks on their devices.
You can find more information on kinds of books here.
Programs and Events
The library offers a wide variety of programs and events that might be interesting to seniors! From book clubs to craft classes, the library can help you keep your social life busy. Visit the library’s calendar of events to see what’s coming up!
Book Club
It’s the club where everyone’s invited! The library picks a book every month and hosts a discussion on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm. Check out the book club page to see what we’re reading next!
Tea/Tee Time
1st and 3rd Monday of every month (except holidays) 1:30-2:30 pm
in the library community room
A time for … playing cards, creating crafts, sharing talents, sharing recipes … just get out of the house!
Open to all adults 18 and over.
The library is open to people of all abilities. Contact us if you have accessibility needs.
Summer Library Program
As an adult, you too can earn prizes from the library during the summer. By reading and completing themed tasks (based on the theme for each summer), you can earn some smaller prizes like books, shirts, and mugs and be entered into a drawing for the summer’s grand prizes!
The activities are not specifically designed for parents or young adults, so even seniors can have some fun! Watching the grandkids for a weekend? Bring them to the library for one of our special events!
Technology and notary services
The library has 7 internet access computers and 2 Chromebooks that can be checked out to use outside the library. Staff are specially trained to assist you if you need help using the computers.
Would you like to get started using ebooks on your phone or tablet? We can help with that too! Ebooks through the Libby app or on a Kindle device allow you to increase the text size of any book you download.
The library also has a copy machine, scanner, and fax machine to help you with all your paperwork needs. Do you have a document that needs to be notarized? The library has two notaries on staff and someone should be available whenever we’re open.

Veterans
The public library works closely with the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Social events and meetings often take place at the library, so contact us if you’d like to get in touch.
We also have computers for public use and staff can help you access resources for veterans through the IowaWorks Veterans Portal.
